"Smoke gets in your eyes"*

Yes it is a song title but here in California it is also a fact of life. Our firefighters are doing a valiant job and have reduce the number of fires from over 1400 to just under 300. I am having a hard time and I am not even close to the fires, I can't imagine what it is like on the fire lines. I wish them the best and continued safety.

As a result of the air quality, the July 9th meeting was cancelled. Many folks were having issues breathing and felt ill. I was use to the haze in the sky, it has become a common sight, but on that day the haze was at ground level and it felt like walking through caramel. Nano Soto sent a wonderful link to information on dealing with smoke. Thanks Nano!

I hope that the winds change and we receive a reprieve from the smoke and the haze.
I will see you all on the 16th.

Have a great weekend

*"Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" is a show tune written by American composer Jerome Kern and lyricist Otto Harbach for their 1933 operetta Roberta.

Happy 4th of July

Hello All Mather Toastmaster's and the World at Large.

It was a beautiful day to be in a parade. I was and so were representatives from several of District 39 clubs. I have a slide show playing on the right for everyone to see and I will be adding more pictures as they arrive in my in box. I am now going to relax at home with my family and enjoy some fine grilled food.

Here is a picture of some of the participants in the Parade, some were missing at this time.

From Toastmasters ...

I hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July!

Also, if you would like to caption some of these pictures let me know.

Independence!!!!

According to Phil and I agree one way to assure that your are going to do something is to tell someone you will do it. With that in mind here is my post....

I am not going to steal the thunder of our Secretary and do a full recap but, I will point out my favorite parts. I am proud every time I hear someone step up for a position that is open, it proves that we truly are "The Greatest Club in the Free World". It was Stephanie's first time running the meeting as President "Yeah!"Add to that Cindy's first time as a Toastmaster at Mather and we have an evening of firsts. The speeches were varied to say the least, Stephanie's hints to overcome stage fright, no nakedness involved, Nano's on the Americanness of Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches, I will never look at a PB&J the same and my speech on Blog, Social Networks and Wiki's. All very different speeches, all different styles and all evaluated wonderfully. The Table Topics were relevant and fun and for some... Brief ;)

Now for my call to action, I would like all members of Mather Toastmasters to add at least one, 1, uno, comment. Simple just read a post and click on add comment. Easy.

No for those of you who would like to write a post for this blog, and it is a great and easy thing to do. Let me know and I will give you permission to post to this site. I encourage everyone to post, it is a wonderful way to encourage sharing and community.

So let me see your comments.
